In 1970 I left Perrysburg, Ohio, in my 1957 Chevrolet station wagon bound for a summer job in Plainfield, Vermont, where I spent about two months baling hay, milking cows, cleaning out barns, and doing other farm chores. I drove through Canada, entering in Windsor and taking the 401 up to Montreal. I spent the night in Kingston, and arrived in Plainfield the next afternoon. The number one song on the radio was Close to You by the Carpenters.
In 1948 my parents were married in St. Louis. They're still together and in good health and good spirits. Happy 57th, Mom and Dad.
