Everyone knew Mark Foley was gay. Everyone. And everyone who had a stake in his success—party, press, parents, staff, supporters, and pages—conspired for their own purposes to keep the closet half closed.Anyone who has dealt with the dilemma of being true to yourself and still try to live up to the real or imagined expectations of your family, your friends, and the society you live in will, in some way, understand what Mr. Foley went through. That doesn't excuse his behavior, but at least it lends some insight, and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of people -- myself included -- who will think "there but for the grace of God (or Dog or FSM) go I."
