A Star is Porn

Matt Sanchez, aka "Rod Majors" and the latest hero of the right wing, invokes the tried-and-true right wing excuse for his past as a gay porn star: That was then; this is now. Besides, it doesn't matter because the conservatives all really like me. I mean they really like me. They even asked me to autograph copies of some videos. All the lefties who are gleefully attacking me are doing it only because I'm a born-again winger.

Frankly, Mr. Sanchez has a point, and I might buy it if the right wing didn't make such a big deal about everyone else's past but their own. They wet themselves over Bill Clinton's randy past to the point they brought the government to a screeching halt, yet they gave a White House press pass to Jeff Gannon, the first gay prostitute darling of the right wing, and Rudy Giuliani, one of the top three candidates for the Republican nomination in '08, showed off his mistress in public. The righties raised a stink over two low-level bloggers for the Edwards campaign who had the temerity to criticize the Catholic Church, yet they give Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, Dennis Prager, and Ann Coulter free tickets to Disney World for their invective against gays and Muslims. (And what is with the right's fascination with well-built male porn stars, yet they demonize gay marriage as a crime against nature? Dr. Freud, call your service.)

So it isn't that Matt Sanchez did porn. Whatever. It's that he's blindingly oblivious to the hypocrisy. And Mr. Sanchez never says whether or not he's really gay. Again, whatever; but I wonder how the United States Marine Corps will deal with one of their reservists making porn flicks, straight or gay? Will they be Semper Fi?

(Bonus: Mr. Sanchez's money quote: "In porn, everything taboo is trivialized and everything trivial is magnified." Quick, get me the tape measure.)
