I'm not wild about the Democrats giving in to the White House on the revamped FISA bill, and I'm not assured that their vows to "fix" it later on isn't a whole lot of sailboat fuel either.
I'm reminded of the time we took Sam to the vet to have him "fixed." I'm sure he didn't feel like we fixed anything but rather took something away that he rather enjoyed having... and something I wish the Democratic leadership would grow back when they really need them.
The problem, of course, is that they know the Orcosphere will raise holy hell about the Democrats being "soft" on terrorism if they didn't give the president everything he wants. Guess what, guys; the GOP will say you're soft on terrorism no matter what you do, so what's the point?
It's also a pretty sad legacy to leave the interpretation of civil rights up to a president and a party who have heretofore shown as little regard for them as they have over the last six years. I doubt that the framers of the Constitution were using "If you've done nothing wrong you've got nothing to worry about" as the standard they were setting when they wrote the First, Fourth, and Fifth Amendments.
