Cut rate clip joint?

How do you maintain your hair? Do you go to a barber/salon? Do it yourself? Have someone else do it? How often?

I go to a real barber shop, one with car magazines and old National Geographics in the waiting area. I go about every six weeks and it costs $14, not including tip.
